CHECK AMERICAN

          Whereas, the United States of America is an exceptional nation of immigrants and their offspring; and

          Whereas, the background of Americans is so varied that we cannot pre-suppose a citizen's heritage, cultural background, creed or race; and

         Whereas, the United States Government from time to time requests or requires that her citizens identify their heritage, race or cultural identity on government forms; and

          Whereas, the categories offered are inherently deficient in that they do not permit the selection of the specific category "American"; and

          Whereas, a United States citizen should have the ability to make the individual choice to identify him or herself as an "American"; 

          Now therefore, let it be adopted that any United States government form that requests that citizens identify their heritage, cultural background, creed or race, have as the first category "American" to be put in an equal or more prominent position as the other categories.
